Partial renovation with bespoke joinery, family apartment

A partial renovation for a young family in Hong Kong, with storage and functionality at the forefront. We designed the home around a single sculptural gesture: a curved, full-height cabinet that creates a dedicated entry moment while quietly absorbing the daily clutter of coats, shoes and school bags behind its soft radius.

The living room reads as one continuous line: custom millwork with soft curves wrap the media wall, flowing into floating wood veneer shelves that tie in with a rounded study desk. For this musical family, we integrated a piano keyboard tray into the desk that slides away out of sight. Each child has a purpose-built desk with generous shelving to house their growing collection of books.

The two bathrooms set the tone. The primary shower is wrapped in deep blue artisanal tile with brushed brass fittings. The guest bathroom answers in a softer sage green. Warm and light wood, durable quartz and tactile glazed tile keep the palette calm and built to last, without feeling boring.

The Canyon Project

San Francisco Bay Area, California

Full kitchen and bathroom remodel, landscape design

The Canyon Project involved a full remodel of the kitchen and bathroom, including removal of walls and relocating plumbing fixtures.

The brief was to open up and modernize the space, while maintaining a feeling of serenity, ease and warmth. A blend of mid-century modern and contemporary furnishings provide the finishing touch to an uplifting space.

We completely redesigned the front yard and back yard, creating a zen garden in front, with Japanese maple trees, wisteria and cherry blossoms, Mexican river rocks and California gold gravel. The back yard features an artificial lawn in a curvilinear design, providing plenty of open space for the clients' French Bulldog and young children to run around and play.

Key materials include porcelain tile from Italy, walnut kitchen cabinets (locally crafted in San Francisco) and brass hardware.

The Rosewood Project

Shoreditch, London

Furnishing and styling, three bed / two bath penthouse

We assisted with the furnishing and styling of a three bed, two bath penthouse apartment in Shoreditch, London, for a busy professional and her adorable Shiba Inu pup.

The design inspiration was scandi-modern without sacrificing warmth and comfort. Our client loves to host, so having ample seating and open space for socializing was crucial, along with a functional bar cart for easy self-service.

    We begin developing design concepts that focus on optimising the use of your space and enhancing the flow and usability of your home.

    Design Documentation

    Once we have a clear plan, we transform the initial design concept into detailed plans, elevations and specifications documents that precisely guide the construction and design process.

    Finishes Selection

    With the design documented, we source materials and finishes from our trusted suppliers. The choices we make impact not only the look and feel of your home, but also its practicality and durability. Each selection reflects your lifestyle.

  6. 06

    Construction

    During construction, we will oversee the design direction of your project. We will work with your project team to ensure our design is executed to the highest standard.

  7. 07

    Final Styling

    After construction, we commence installation of furniture and accessories. As we make the final adjustments, you will see your house transformed into a home that is functional, comfortable and a joy to live in.

  8. 08

    Handover

    Once everything is in place, we reveal your transformed home. We also continue to check in with you after project completion to ensure that everything is working as expected and you are satisfied with the result.

Who Am I?

I am Stephanie Sham, the Founder and Principal Designer of Stephanie Sham Studio. I have a Certificate in Interior Architecture and Interior Design from The University of California, Berkeley (Extension). Most recently, I worked as a Design Coordinator (interior designer/project manager) at a real estate firm. Before that, I worked at two high-end residential design firms and a custom furniture showroom. I have also completed freelance interior design projects around the world, including London, England, the San Francisco Bay Area and Bozeman, Montana.

Now based in Hong Kong, our studio specializes in crafting residential designs that cater to the rhythm of busy family life. We are passionate about helping families transform their apartments (or houses) into functional, inviting homes that reflect their busy lifestyle. We take into consideration factors like storage solutions, space usage, durability of materials and safety.     We did about $40K of upgrades to the very cute but very small 2/1 house to make it more attractive to someone who might want to move in rather than just knocking it down. DeLeon has a professional designer on staff, Stephanie, who guided that process and really made the house look beautiful. She monitored the construction and caught a problem early in the process while the grout was still wet and instructed the contractor to re-do it as she had asked it to be done.
